Empty holiday and second apartments do not have to be heated through
If you have a long absence, you want to find the usual pleasant living temperature if possible.
If the empty apartment is heated through, this is probably the case, but that means waste waste of energy and money.
If the heating was turned down in the absence, it takes several unpleasant cool hours until the desired room temperature is reached. In addition, frost damage may threaten if the heating fails.
There are around 700,000 second apartments in Switzerland - many of which are heated throughout the cold season.
Many of the sporadically inhabited second apartments and holiday homes are heated to more than 18 degrees throughout the winter season. The federal government wants to put an end to this waste of energy. Modern technology is a great help.
To reduce the temperatures in the uninhabited apartment, remote controls can be installed. Before your arrival in your holiday home, the residents can switch on the heating and set the desired comfort temperature.
According to the Federal Office for Energy, energy consumption could be reduced by 30 to 60 percent and would be a step in the right direction.
